Running in Style

When I hit the gym or go running, I definitely look a little more like this:

I am definitely one of those girls who will shamelessly roll my eyes at the girl in the VS Pink yoga pants, teeny tiny tank and pushup sports bra. If I have the slightest bit of makeup on my face while working out, I feel gross and sticky. My hair is ALWAYS up because if I didn’t pull it up I would just have a swaety, heavy mop stuck to the back of my head. I do not understand the girls who go to the gym, prance around on the stairmaster while BBM-ing 8000 wpm (yes I have someone specific I am referring to), and never seem to break the slightest hint of a sweat.

NEWSFLASH! You aren’t getting a workout.

But (yes, BUT) I recently did a little thinking about my race attire. I was browsing through old pictures of 5k races and with each one, all I could think was “Dear God WHY did I choose to wear THAT?!”

Seriously? What was I thinking. I can’t find all the other 5k pics but let’s just say I was having a love affair with those awful capris and a total lapse of judgement every time I got dressed and forgot pictures would be taken.

On Monday, I’m running a 4th of July 5k in Newbury Park and I’ve been giving some much needed thought to the day’s outfit. I have a super cute Nike running skirt that I got at Nordstrom Rack for $24.99. I think this is the same one. However, all of my running shirts are crazy bright colors and I’d really like to rep some RW&B. I got an American Flag bandana that I might use as a headband, vut my goal is to find a cute red or blue running shirt (for cheap) before Monday. Then, hopefully, I can post my first cute 5k picture on here proudly. I really like those cute Champion babydoll tops but they stopped selling them, so I think I might have to snag the knockoff at the Targ.

Anyways, I ran 4 miles on Sunday, 2 on Monday and 1.5 yesterday. I’m taking today as a rest day because my ankle’s been a little sore after each run, but I have plans to run 5 miles Saturday with an old friend from High School. Sunday will probably be a rest day and then the 5k on Monday. I need to get my butt in gear because October 30 will be here before I know it so it’s time to start logging some longer runs. If only I didn’t live in the middle of a million small hills…

Friday Nights and Lazy Saturdays

I live in one of those towns in So Cal that seems to cater to the 13 and under and 40 and older crowd. Lots of families, lots of strip malls, not a whole lot to do on the weekends when you’re 24 but don’t feel like making the trek to LA or even to the next town over that actually has bars besides TGIFridays.

Last night Jas and I went to this little restaurant/nighttime hangout (I cannot bring myself to call it a bar) with his sister and a couple of our friends.

I actually managed to change out of my yoga pants and look semi decent for this little outing.

Do me a favor and ignore the roots… my hair grows too fast and my wallet can’t keep up. I think it’s time to go back to dark hair.

Then, since I didn’t run yesterday I did a few bicep curls and burned some cals using my 5lb beer:

Then we went back to Jodi and Casey’s apartment where we watched Drunk History on YouTube. If you haven’t seen it, I very much encourage you to watch. If it had existed 10 years ago, I would have learned a lot more about history.

Ok, on to the running – I was super lazy this morning and slept til 10 and then it was just too darn hot. So tomorrow, I swear on this blog (and because once I write it, it has to be true or I look like a d-bag) tomorrow I will run 5 miles in the morning. Also, one of my favorite running bloggers, SkinnyRunner, is running a marathon in the SV tomorrow so I’m thinking I might have to go watch along the route at some point. I just ordered one of her amazing shirts that I plan to wear in the RnR LA Half in October. SO CUTE!

Model Shmodel

This post is going to be a little light on the running because I’ve been a little light on the running. I did 4 miles after work on Monday then 2 miles yesterday morning at 5:30AM. I didn’t run today, but I did pick up a special treat for Friday as a reward for my first morning run:

I got myself some RAMONA SINGER PINOT GRIGIO

You know you’re jealous. To answer all questions, yes it was way overpriced, yes it’s just a marketing ploy, yes I am sure it will taste like any other crappy white wine, no I don’t care.

I mean, how can you resist doing everything possible to become even half as amazing as RAMONA.

Ramona totally has that whole “smile with your eyes” thing going, don’t you think?

Enough with this June Gloom

I just put the inaugural 4 miles on the new shoes. No ipod today. I’m finding that I focus on my breathing much better when I’m not listening to music. Some days I need it, today I went without it.

The good news is this foggy, blah weather we’re having is really nice for running. The bad news is it’s Saturday and I want to go to the beach, but the weather sucks. Ugh.

Last night I went out with a friend to Elephant Bar for Happy Hour. $27 total for drinks and dinner! You can’t really beat that 🙂 Then we hit up Target for some unnecessary retail therapy where I found these two awesome frames for $1.98 each!

I can’t wait to put them in the house that I don’t yet have. (Good news is I called Jas this morning and he was driving around looking at homes for sale. Yay!!)

Then I went to sleep way past my bedtime at 11PM, woke up this morning for some of this:

Did my 4-mile loop and now I have every reason to be lazy for the rest of the day since the weather sucks and I don’t feel like changing out of my workout clothes. Or showering.

The Not-Cute Shoe Purchase

Today I bought my first pair of real, professionally fitted by the RoadRunner Sports people, running shoes. Or as I like to call them, the I-Could-Have-Bought-the-Steve-Madden-Pumps-I-Wanted-but-I-Got-These-Instead shoes. The running pros determined I have ridiculously high arches and major over-pronation so they put me in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11’s.

Upon my decision to run the RNR Los Angeles (and my FIRST) Half Marathon in October, I decided the ol’ $49.99 Asics Crosstrainers from Kohls just weren’t going to cut it anymore. Oh yeah, and I also wanted to feel really hardcore and committed to this goal and the $100 for non-cute shoes kinda makes me feel like I can’t back out now.

I also got a sweet little pouch for my yet-to-be used Nike+ Sportwatch (Don’t judge, I had no where to put the sensor so I just haven’t tried it out yet). Check it out:
