Big Things Are Happening

These past couple weeks have been crazy! I have so much to share as so many amazing and exciting things have been happening!

Last Tuesday, by some miracle, I did this:

While somehow managing not to end up like this:

Jodi works part-time as a dance teacher so after work last week she organized an aerial silks class for a group of girls at work. It was possibly one of the most difficult things I have ever attempted. It made running 13.1 miles seem easy. A week later, I am still sore.

It was quite the comedy act that night, let me tell you. I has such a blast though and will definitely attempt it again after I learn to do 800 push ups and possibly get permanently fitted with a steel brace on my feet so the silks don’t squeeze the circulation out of them again. But seriously, if you ever get a chance to try it – do it! I have a whole new appreciation for how strong those Cirque de Soleil people must be. I mean, they make it look so easy 😉

The next piece of big news that happened over the weekend came in the form of a phone call on Saturday morning:Misha got engaged!

She called me right after to tell me the news and I was so excited I was practically speechless! How cute are Mish and Stefan? Seriously – love it. (And how gorgeous is her ring!?)Congrats!!!

The final piece of big news happened even before all of the previous excitement but I’ve spent the past 2 weeks just waiting for it to sink in…

JASON BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!!!!!

After almost 6 months of more real estate drama than you get on Million Dollar Listing, my boyfriend is officially a homeowner 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ll be sure to share more pictures soon.

As far as updates on the running front, I am still following my Runner’s World Smartcoach Plan as closely as possible with some tweaks here and there (like needing to take 3 days off while I gimped around like an old lady after the aerial silks class), but I have a 10-miler on the agenda for this Saturday and I’m looking forward to it!

What’s the most interesting sport/class you’ve ever tried?

Back to Back

I had a great 9 mile run on Saturday, but have spent the last 2 days moping around with a nasty cold. I feel so stuffy I can’t even hear right. Boo.

I have yet to change out of my pajamas and it’s 6:30 PM.

I’m not sure if it was a fit of cold medication-induced delusion or not, but somehow I ended up signing up for another half marathon the week after running in the Great Race of Agoura Pacific Half.

Groupon had a great deal for the Compete Green Ventura Harbor Half on April 1 – 2 entries for $59. My Dad purchased the deal and I scored the second entry. The Groupon deal sold out but I think registration is still open. It looks like a super small race, but it’s pancake flat so I’m looking forward to it. If the Agoura sub-2:10 goal is a total fail, which I hope it won’t be, I will only have to wait a week to try again.

Heidi has offered to be my pacer if I pay her in bones and steak. Unfortunately, her strategy is to sprint for 6 minutes then walk the rest of the way while loudly panting and peeing ever 4 feet. Sorry Dingo, I don’t think it’s going to work out for us.

Now I’m off to eat some hot soup and watch The Voice. Anyone else hooked? I love how Cee Lo holds his cat while being interviewed. He is sooo odd!

Who Wants to go to Vegas?

I’m obviously good at making completely uneducated guesses when my $20 is at stake:

Please excuse the fantastic quality of my cell phone picture. My phone is from 2008. I was barely willing to part with my $20 for Superbowl bets, so why on earth would I spend money on smartphone?

Last night we went to a Superbowl Party and after much convincing from J and Kyle, I threw $20 in the betting bowl and filled out some form. I took some wild guesses on things like “How many yards will the longest punt return be?” (What is a punt return?) and “Who will score first/last for New England?” (Hernandez – thanks J). Then I sat through 3 hours and 20 minutes of football and went home with $55.

So naturally I’m ready to head to Vegas and put my life savings down on some more uneducated guesses. Who’s in? I’m obviously good at this.

Oh and I also ran 8 miles on the treadmill on Saturday. Where the heck did that come from???!!!

Ragnar Meet-Up and Hair Accessories

Ran 4 miles in 40 minutes. Treadmill. HOT!

Is it just me or does everyone feel like gyms are extra hot and sweaty this time of year? I would blame the fact that it’s colder in winter, so maybe they don’t keep the gym quite so cool, but our weather hasn’t dipped below 68* in weeks!

I definitely gained a running motivation boost on Saturday at my first meet-up with Team So Much Cooler Online.

Huge thanks to HRM for playing paparazzi and snapping the group photo 🙂

Everyone is so nice and reading all of their stories as to how they started running and challenges they have all faced an overcome is so inspiring. I was so happy to finally meet most of the team and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone else who couldn’t make it very soon.

As OUAL requested, we put on our serious pants and got some Ragnar business out of the way before conversation turned to the importance of dry hairspray and where the best places to pee and shower are going to be along the race route. All the important things of course. (Another huge thanks to Sarah for stepping up as Master Planner of the whole thing. Coordinating 18 women cannot be an easy task and she rocks at it).

We also added a couple new team members to the party – Sandy from BIC Bands and Julie! Exciting stuff! Sandy was also a total sweetheart and brough BIC Bands for all of us.

If you are like me and deal with headbands constantly slipping and needing adjustments then you have to check out BIC Bands!! They DO NOT slip. I ordered one in the black skinny sparkle and brown skinny minnie sparkle and have been wearing them non-stop. Thanks to Sandy’s thoughtfulness, I was able to add red and white sparkle skinny minnies to my collection and I already have started scoping out other fun colors I plan to order. They also would make great gifts for girlfriends, sisters, moms, aunts, cousins, etc.

The best part about these headbands? A portion of each sale goes to charity! Check our their facebook page to see what charity funds are being donated to this month.
