A Great Start to 2012

Happy New Year!!

Last night I decided that my New Year’s Resolution is to practice my walk so I can become Ultimate Grand Supreme and finally beat that beyatch Mackenzie.

We had a great night playing games and enjoying appetizers at Jodi and Casey’s before heading out to Cafe Firenze.

I had about 2 sips of my martini (the small one on the left) before I gave it to the boys and switched to almond champagne. I couldn’t hang.

If you work in advertising or just really like commercials, check out The Logo Board Game. It’s so fun we played it the last two nights in a row!

The Girls

Our handsome boys

Dinner was amazing! I had a strawberry basalmic martini and butternut squash ravioli that was HEAVEN on a plate. And we totally met Fabio! The restaurant even did a complimentary champagne toast at midnight, even though Jason and I had counted down and celebrated East Coast New Year three hours earlier:

It turned out that we had a great reason to celebrate East Coast New Year! Just a couple minutes after this picture was taken in 80* California, this was happening over in New York right in front of the Statue of Liberty:

Jason’s twin sister (and one of my BFFs) Tiffany GOT ENGAGED! I’m SO excited for Tiff and Aaron and I am super impatient and when them to get back now so I can finally start putting my Pinterest Wedding Board to good use (JK Jas I don’t have a wedding board… maybe). UMM and PS. Check out that bling! I can’t wait to hear all of the proposal details and celebrate with them!

How did you ring in 2012?

Any big plans or wishes for the New Year? I just signed up for another Half Marathon! More on that soon, but my big plan is to break 2:10 🙂

Goodbye 2011

Yesterday – ran 2.84 miles in 28:40. Today – hitting the gym eventually 🙂

I can’t believe 2011 is over! I hope everyone has fun plans to ring in the New Year. We’ll be heading to this for the night:

Sorry I had to 🙂

Actually, J and I are going to dinner with Jodi, Casey, Misha and her BF Stefan at this delish Italian restaurant that’s owned by Fabio from Top Chef. I’m having serious trouble deciding between Butternut Squash Ravioli or Pesto Gnocchi.

They even have a champagne toast at midnight! But because I’m not big on patience, I picked up my favorite $6 almond champagne from TJs thinking we can start the champagne-ing before dinner. We’re going to do apps, drinks and hair styling (courtesy of Jodi’s amazing skills) before dinner then head out for a late night. This weekend will mark 2 nights in a row of me staying up past 12 – incredible!

I hope everyone has an amazing, fun and safe New Years! Don’t drink and drive, don’t drink and text, and have a great end to 2011 and an even better start to 2012!

What are you doing for New Years?

Christmas Catch-Up

My brain is so fried lately. I stuttered so badly at the gym today that Jason was able to visually observe my mental lapse without being able to hear me over his headphones. He actually pulled them out and looked at me and said “Did you just stutter? Like hardcore stutter?”

Yesterday morning I also forgot to put the coffee pot back under the coffee maker and I brewed a pot of coffee onto the countertop (thanks for cleaning it up Mom!).

Since my brain just doesn’t want to function, I figured I would just share some pictures from our Christmas weekend. Enjoy!

Maddi and I organized a family Christmas Edition of Minute to Win It. We had my poor Grandma do the cookie on the face thing where you have to get it from  your forehead to your mouth without using your hands and she got cookie crumbs in here eyes. We didn’t think that one through…

Doesn’t it look like the rooster is landing on Alli’s head?

How cute are the stockings from my grandparents?

Nanny & Grampy

Our tree on Christmas morning

The baby of the family was so excited to open her gift.

Grandad & Grandma

Nikki DID NOT like the dancing Santa Duck.

And the best picture of the whole weekend… I walked outside on Christmas night to find Jason cheating on me with his new girlfriend:

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Fantastic Festivus! Can you believe we are just a few days away from 2012?

Merry Christmas!

It’s super busy prepping everything for Christmas! Yesterday I managed to squeeze in a 4.44 mile run in 44:04. No clue how I managed such perfect 4-synchronization. What can I say? I’m special. Today I got up early and hit the elliptical for 20 minutes before taking on Body Pump with Misha:

Tiffany & Misha at my birthday

After the sweat sesh, we hit up Coffee Bean for drinks and a little gift exchnage. Isn’t it funny when you and your friends think so alike you buy each other the same gift? We swapped Cranberry Pear Bellini candles from Bath and Bodyworks, and if you haven’t smelled this candle yet I suggest you go fight the mall crowds and do so immediate – Heaven I tell you.

Now the rest of the day is dedicated to baking, camera-charging and laundry doing before we head to church at 5 and follow that up with our annual dinner and Christmas Eve celebration with the family.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Does your family have any Christmas Eve traditions or do you save everything for the Big Day?

Twice is Nice

Ran 1.25 miles yesterday + a ridiculous leg workout. I’m 99% sure I’ll be running the Great Race of Agoura Pacific Half Marathon so it’s going to be back to squeezing in weekend long runs for me. I’m determined to beat my 2:18 time now!

This week was full of swanky holiday partying at work. On Thursday, we headed up north to the Four Seasons Biltmore Santa Barbara for a holiday lunch with our whole company. Jodi drove and provided the necessary road trip snacks:

When you’re about to go have a fancy free lunch at the Four Seasons, it’s only proper to make sure there are 762g of sugar coursing through your bloodstream when you arrive.

Needless to say, it was gorgeous, the food was amazing and we had a blast.

The massive tree in the lobby couldn’t fit in a picture.

That butternut squash soup was the best soup I’ve ever had. It was topped with cinnamon creme fraiche and little bits of heaven. (Please note that I embarrassed all my coworkers by taking constant food pictures. I was shameless for the sake of this blog.)

The lunch was really fun even though I didn’t win an iPad.

On Friday, I actually had to get up and blow dry my hair for the second day in a row. I made the smart decision of working for a company that is headquartered in SB, but I work out of the parent company office near LA. The perk of this set-up – 2 holiday parties for me.

Friday’s holiday lunch was at the INCREDIBLE Sherwood Country Club in Westlake Village. Work on the street is that Britney Spears just bought a new house there and Sean Connery was kicked out because the other members didn’t like him.

Just because I want to name drop some more – they filmed the engagement party scene in Bridesmaids here.

See that plate of desserts in the back? I practically licked it clean.

Everyone in the company received a lucky $2. I still didn’t win an iPad at this part either, but Jodi’s $2 gave her a bit of luck and she went home of a with a bottle of wine!

After lunch, we took some more pictures then went to look at real estate. I am having trouble deciding which house I want so I might have to buy them all.

If you could live anywhere and money was no object, where would you live?

I would either live in Lake Sherwood or in Cameron Diaz’s house in The Holiday.

Random house fact of the day:

The Spelling Manor has a 17,000 sq. ft. basement that Candy Spelling has filled to the brim with Halloween and Christmas decorations purchased at Costco. She literally drove around to every Costco in the greater LA area to purchase every single Nutcracker that they sold one year.

Lions & Tigers & Garmins

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and survived all the craziness of Black Friday weekend!

I had THE BEST Thanksgiving/Birthday weekend EVER! It started with the usual fun of Thanksgiving, which included massive amounts of food and pie:

I had to include my delicious Mimosa… some people drink wine with their Thanksgiving meal but I say there is nothing wrong with 5:00 pm mimosas.

We had so many people at our house to celebrate, it was great! I parked myself on the couch where the men were all watching football and after about 7 minutes of trying to be interested, I pulled out my current Harry Potter book and spent most of the day reading and having my sisters bring me more mimosas.

Friday was my birthday and I have to say that if my 25th year turns out to be as great as my first weekend then I have a lot to look forward to. I avoided Black Friday in favor of sleeping in and having one of my dad’s famous omlettes for breakfast. My family showered me with some incredible birthday gifts including candles and lotion of Bath & Body Works, a cute tank top that I already got to wear thanks to our 80* weather, some awesome new pink Nike running apparel and GORGEOUS diamond hoops. I felt SO spoiled!

Jason came over as we were finishing breakfast. We had plans to go to the LA Zoo because I’m really 5 not 25, and all I wanted to to go see large cats up close and personal. He totally surprised me with another amazing piece of jewelry:

A Garmin Forerunner!!!!

I was SO surprised – and so excited I wanted to wear it to dinner later that night 😉

After reminding me that the animals were waiting and I could take the Garm on a run later, we set off for the zoo. I’ll just let the pictures do the talking here because I took about 700:

After the zoo, we tried stopping at Portos Bakery for lunch (best bakery ever!), but unfortunately it was closed for the holiday weekend. We settled on a sandwich place in the valley on the way home and after I got us a little lost, we finally ate lunch then headed home to relax a bit before the next part of my birthday extravaganza.

Birthday fun part 2 coming soon!

Did you do any Black Friday shopping?

What’s your favorite animal? I LOVE tigers. I think we spent 15 minutes watching the tiger walk back and forth while I took about 57 pictures of him. So beautiful!

Turkey Pants

This morning my Dad and I braved the impending storm (and I did the impossible and woke up at 6:50 on a weekend morning) to get in a long run. The Holiday Half is only 3 weeks away and with Thanksgiving, a Turkey Trot and my birthday taking place next week along with all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday prep happening at work, I know the days are going to fly by.

We ran 9.27 miles in 1:40. It was cold and so windy but luckily the rain was nothing more than a light mist during our run. I was glad that I decided to wear a jacket and grabbed some a fleece earwarmer headband that I snagged at Target a couple weeks ago.

It was super nice running with my Dad. I didn’t use my iPod and it made time fly by a lot faster than being stuck inside my head with own crazy thoughts about what I’m getting myself into with this whole running thing.

I also got the chance to try out my newly purchased SpiBelt.

It worked so well I actually checked a couple times to make sure it was still on because I couldn’t feel it at all. My only complaint though, is I came home and started feeling the sting of a nasty bruise in the small of my back. I’m not sure if my Dad’s Blackberry that I carried in the SpiBelt was bumping against my back the whole time or what, but it definitely hurts right where the pack was. Other than that, I love it. It didn’t bother me once during the run and I can deal with a bruised back for a couple days if it means I get to run without carrying my phone and Gu Chomps and Nuun and debit card in my hands.

Although I am really hoping to run the half marathon in a faster pace than we ran this morning, I’m pretty pleased with how I felt today. Especially considering that my fueling last night looked a little like this:

Salt & Pepper Fries w/ Ale Ketchup & Garlic Aoli

Curried Chicken & Apple Salad / Mac & Cheese w/ Salt & Vinegar Crust, Jalapenos & Bacon

Unpictured: Ladyface La Blanche Wit and many bites of smoked apple duck sausage and bratwurst.

It was a good night chauferring these guys:

Will was super offended that I thought his shirt was a picture of Chuck Norris.

I do think they were a bit disappointed that the Danica Bus stopped running at 10:00 last night. They should have joined the party that rolled up in this beast:

Now I’m off to go find myself some Turkey Pants to get ready for Thursday’s festivities.

What are your best pre-long-run fueling tips?

Anyone else doing a Turkey Trot?

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish? I love the stuffing, apple and pumpkin pie and this super yummy broccoli dish we have. Also, my aunt’s creamed corn is pretty famous in the family and I usually reserve an entire bowl for it.
