I’m so motivated I’m scaring myself

I just did something so out of character for me I’m still in shock. It’s only the second day of January and I’ve already paid all my student loan, car payment, and credit card bills. I usually wait until the day they are due to scramble home and pay them on time, but miraculously, I paid almost 2 weeks early this month.

Things are getting crazy!

I also signed up for my next half marathon on March 24:

I’ll be running in the Pacific Half Marathon and I’m really hoping to run it in 2:10 or less.

In an effort to help prepare for this race and work on getting a bit faster, I just placed an order for these beauties:

Runner’s World Complete Book or Women’s Running

Runner’s World The Runner’s Diet

I’m not a natural athlete or a particularly fast runner, but considering that much of my training for my first half marathon consisted of the trial and error method and some skipped long runs, I think I can definitely step it up with a little guidance from these books. A sub-2:10 half would feel like an incredible accomplishment for me and might be the next step to (possibly) attempting a full marathon in the future.

Other Productive Things I’ve Done in 2012\

– I haven’t bitten my nails since I sucked it up and got a gel manicure on 12/30. 3 days and going strong!

– I painted my toenails dark purple so that my two black toenails are no longer visible. Lovely right?

– I picked up a pair of $15 Nike Hero Shorts (one of my faves) at Sports Authority today. They were in my size. I left without buying them. Truly a New Year miracle.

– My NYE dress is sitting on my bed and I am absolutely planning on hanging it up before I go to sleep instead of tossing it onto the floor.

Has anyone read any good or motivating running books?

What is your favorite book ever? J and I just finally finished the whole Harry Potter series and they are the best books I have ever read. I think the last one was my favorite. I bawled my way through the final 100 pages and now I’m dying to finally watch the last movies.

Confession Thursday

A few of my favorite bloggers sometimes do these confession posts and I think it’s time for me to fess up to a few things. Before though, on the running front – yesterday I did a 3.5 mile speed workout at the gym. 1 mile warm up, 4x.25 FAST (I normally run a 10 min pace, I did these at a 7-8 minute pace), followed by a half mile cool down. I was sweating like you wouldn’t believe. I think J was embarrassed by me.

Now for some confessions. I think I owe a little more info about my life to my 3-4 readers, whoever you are. And please enjoy the random old pictures throughout.

Confession 1: I LOVE to blog. I just don’t always WANT to blog. I spend 40+ hours a week staring at a computer. Sometimes I get home and I want to do anything but look at my computer for another hour. I really do enjoy it when I actually sit down and pump something out. I truly love writing, and before the desire for boatloads of money crossed my mind I was actually a Journalism Major for 2 years.

Best Eggs Benedict EVER. A result of being on the computer so much is that I buy a lot of Groupons. This was for Larchmont Bungalow in LA. GO! Seriously! You will thank me.

Confession 2: I talk about Jason A LOT. If you read my blog, get used to it. I spend 90% of my free time with him and he’s absolutely the best boyfriend ever so after 5+ years with him I have a lot of bragging I like to do.

My handsome man in Maui. We got shaved ice from Ululani’s and it was amazing. UHHHMAZING. It had mac-nut ice cream in the bottom. I would buy a plane ticket just to go get more of this stuff.

Confession 3: I love food. Anything I eat and enjoy will be deemed “The BEST thing ever” for a period of time, and every time I mention it again (as you can see).

Confession 4: I over exaggerate. If you’ve ever heard Dane Cook’s bit about taking a 100 hour nap, well, that’s probably about me.

Confession 5: If I could choose to only watch TV or only read for the rest of my life I would not even hesitate. I could never give up reading. But before you think I’m some arrogant, pompous intellect-type, I need to clarify. I pretty much spend all of my reading energy on anything and everything written by Stephen King, then when something comes out that caters to high schoolers (like Twilight and Hunger Games) I drop everything and read every book in the series. Then I go back to Stephen King when I’m done obsessing and pretending to be Katniss (I’m currently considering taking up archery).

I plowed through the first book in one afternoon at the beach and a couple days on the elliptical. I’m now on the second book, Catching Fire, and all I can think about it that I really wish the movie was already out so I could be Katniss for Halloween and not have people ask me a million times if I’m supposed to be Peter Pan.

What’s your favorite book? Maybe you can pull me away from the Stephen King & Young Adult Fiction Fan Club.

Disneyland! And Reading Limitations

I’m so unmotivated to get up and going this morning. I wish normal working hours were 10-3 each day. Who came up with this 8-5 deal? They were stupid. So instead of brushing my hair, I thought I should share a few picture from this weekend. Disneyland!

We started the day at California Adventure and the first ride we went on broke down as soon as we got seated. I’m talking locked-in-the-seat-can’t-get-up broken down. After some minor anxiety and 20 minutes later, they moved us into a different part to go on the ride. Then we lined up in the 100 degree (almost) heat to go on the rollercoaster. After that, the boys decided we needed to properly hydrate for the rest of the day.

Scotch on the rocks (bleh)

And an ice cold Hef for me.

Once we were properly filled with some beverages and lobster nachos (mmmmm) we made our way on to the stomach dropping Tower of Terror.

How cute is the little girl sitting behind the boys? She had a full Tinkerbelle costume on. Then we took some more pictures before the new Star Tours ride:

And the obligatory couple’s castle picture:

We thought it would be a good idea to get a slight cool down on Splash Mountain, but somehow I got soaked and walked around with wet jeans the rest of the day. At least I didn’t wear tennis shoes and have one squishy wet sock all day (J…)

So to make up for the fact that we got drenched and it was now dark out, we needed some goodies:

Unfortunately there is no picture of the tiger butter fudge or the two Dole Pineapple Whips we scarfed down. But the cookie was awesome. And J was super amused that he matched the Coke bottle.

Then I contemplated a $40 Indiana Jones hat, but thought better of it. I need new running clothes more I guess.

Don’t the boys look like the secret service guarding some official artifact?

And finally, I made them watch the fireworks. They did what boys do best and checked ESPN while me and my non-smart phone stood there taking creepy pictures of them.

After the fireworks, we left the park, stopped at Jack In The Box where I had my first piece of fast food (In N Out doesn’t count!) in months, then went home.

On Sunday, J and I got up to hit the beach for a bit since it was unbearably hot again. We watched this helicopter take off and I got nauseous just watching them fly all around. Ugh, no thanks…

And we couldn’t leave the beach without stopping at Lady Face:

And finally we went home and sat outside so I could blast through 11 chapters of The Hunger Games in record time. Then I read more yesterday. I’m not having to put a limit on when I can read it because Jas is reading it too and he’s about 12 chapters behind me so I can’t discuss anything with him! It’s driving me nuts! Read faster boyfriend!

And I was lazy and didn’t run all weekend but I hit the gym yesterday and did 40 min elliptical and I’m going all out tonight on the treadmill. Now I need to get ready for work I guess. I should at least not show up in pajamas…

What is your favorite ride at Disneyland? And is anyone else reading Hunger Games and want to have long drawn out discussions about how much we love it so I don’t drive J crazy?
